For this strand I decided to choose the word texture. In my work I aimed to use the Weston's ideas of high contrasting texture to create bold images that satisfy the eye . I wanted to explore photography and how textures are presented while incorporating depth, contrast, and patterns. In photography, texture is the visual depiction of variations in the color, shape, and depth of an object's surface. Therefore I focused on ensuring a shallower depth of field by widening my aperture to allow more light in to create a closer plane of focus on my textures.

Mauricio Alejo is a Mexican photographer who photographed images of everyday objects inserted in unusual contexts. He shows how even the most simple and obvious objects can change the way it's perceived when decontextualised and deprived of its main characteristics. Alejos aim was to transform objects into something different, disturbing and unnatural for the viewer and challenge them to change their schemas of uses for these items. |
In this task I was required to create a sequence of photos based on a word based theme which for mine I chose the word 'conventional' . This word linked to the abstraction module as I showed conventional objects in unconventional ways, for example, cutlery in the place of a toothbrush. My intention was to draw inspiration from Mauricio Alejos work (seen above) because I wanted to explore how I could change the way everyday objects could be perceived.
